“Cocaine” Cassie Sainsbury disputes that Tatiana was incarcerated

Convicted drug smuggler ‘Cocaine’ Cassie Sainsbury has slammed persistent rumours she met her wife behind bars – and insists her partner is not a jailbird.

Sainsbury, 27, says she only hooked up with Tatiana, 34, in the middle of last year, more than 12 months after she was freed from jail.

And she demanded an end to the constant speculation, saying it was ‘really damaging to her wife’s name and reputation’.

The Aussie served three years in jail after she was caught at Colombia’s Bogota Airport with 5.8kg of cocaine hidden inside her suitcase as she tried to board a flight to London in April 2017.

She was sentenced to six years in prison but was released early in 2020.

The pair were married in March this year in a glamorous ceremony on a private island in Colombia.

But Sainsbury insists she only met Tatiana after her release – and contrary to the gossip and rumourmongers, Tatiana has not done any time in prison.

‘My wife was never in prison,’ she said in a revealing question and answer session on Instagram on Friday.

‘My wife would never have been able to get an Australian visa if she had a criminal history.

‘I would actually love if everyone stopped saying that she was in prison, that she was a convicted felon because it is actually really damaging for her name and her reputation.’

Sainsbury also hit back to people questioning her accent, which now appears to have a Spanish twang to it.

‘I’ve actually heard this many times that I have an accent, that I put on an accent, but I personally don’t feel like I have an accent,’ she said.

‘It would probably be that over the last five years, the only times I would have spoken English was when I was teaching it or when I speak to family and apart from that I would be speaking fluent Spanish all the time.

‘And obviously pronouncing Spanish is different from speaking English and I’m guessing the accent kind of took over on that side of things.’

Sainsbury was also asked about her weight loss, to which she replied: ‘It’s been nearly 44kg and still counting.

‘I follow my own guidelines, I follow my own tips and tricks that I’ve learnt over the years which has helped me lose it and maintain it off.

‘Even with all my Australian binge-eating in the last few weeks, I have actually managed to keep losing weight which is really good.’
