Jonathan Banks is an American actor. His breakthrough came with the role of detective Frank McPike in the television series Wiseguy (1987–1990). He has received critical acclaim for his role as hitman and cleaner Mike Ehrmantraut in the television series Breaking Bad (2009–2012), its spin-off series Better Call Saul (2015–2022), and its sequel film, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019).

Banks has received six Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (1989, 2013, 2015-2017, 2019) for his work on all three series, making him the only actor with nominations as a main cast member for three shows in this category, two of which feature him as the same character.

Outside of television, Jonathan Banks has appeared in films such as Airplane! (1980), 48 Hrs. He was raised by a single mother, Elena Adams Banks (October 13, 1917–September 16, 2012), who was a secretary in various federal government offices including the CIA. She was also a private secretary to several top Naval officers, including Admiral Chester Nimitz.

Banks graduated from Northwood High School in Silver Spring and attended Indiana University Bloomington, where he was a classmate of actor Kevin Kline.
