As an attorney and member of the Florida Bar, Josh regularly works with some of the most successful attorneys and law firms in the country, including Winston & Strawn, Quinn Emanuel, Holland & Knight, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, Roy Black, Barry Scheck, Jay Eisenhofer, Jerry Shargel, Jerry Lefcourt, and Peter Neufeld.

Josh Dubin was the attorney for Clemente Aguirre-Jarquin. He was the man who spent nearly 15 years in prison — including a decade on death row — for two murders before being freed in 2018 filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, the agency that investigated the case.
Clemente Aguirre-Jarquin was convicted of the 2004 murders of Cheryl Williams and her mother Carol Bareis in Seminole County and sentenced to death. But the Florida Supreme Court vacated the conviction in 2016 because of confessions made by Samantha Williams, Cheryl Williams’ daughter and Bareis’ granddaughter, that she was the killer.

Aguirre-Jarquin was set to go to trial again in November 2018, but the Seminole-Brevard State Attorney’s Office dropped the case after new testimony raised issues about Samantha Williams’ alibi the night of the killings. Aguirre-Jarquin, now 39, was freed and lives in Tampa.
“Clemente’s nightmare was the direct result of the failure of the Seminole County Sheriff’s office to conduct a constitutionally adequate investigation, free of ethnic stereotypes and false assumptions, into the 2004 murders [of Williams and Bareis],” said the lawsuit, which was filed in Orlando’s U.S. District Court by Miami attorney Josh Dubin.
