McEvoy said Brew’s win was still vivid in his memory.

“It was a special day, that’s for sure,” McEvoy said.

“It obviously zoomed me off into my senior career as a jockey and I’m forever thankful for Brew and Mick Moroney and the connections for giving me the opportunity.

“It changed my career, and it changed my life, for sure.”

McEvoy said to win the Cup, one of the main things was patience saying it was a tactical race. He said a jockey needs to be in-tune with their horse, to go out with a plan, but also be fluid, adding the 3200m race was forever changing and evolving. Drawn out in barrier 21, McEvoy said it was likely he would be pressing forward on Grand Promenade.

“My horse has got good gate speed,” McEvoy said.

“He has pace to use if I choose to get a spot, but I’ll go out with a bit of an open mind and assess the pace in the first furlong,” McEvoy said.

“It could be set up to be run at a nice tempo and there might be a few horses that will be up the front or in the first five or six.

“I like the fact that he has been versatile throughout his career and has taken a spot midfield and come with a run.

“I’ll be going out with an open plan and seeing how it unfolds.

“It’s nice having (favourite) Incentivise somewhere near me and he’s obviously the one to beat.”
