Tom Slingsby OAM was born on September 5, 1984 (age 37 years) in Wahroonga, Australia. Although his father was a sailor and he had been around boats during his earliest years, Slingsby admits he wasn’t a strong junior sailor and instead focused his energy on tennis, which saw him evolve into a budding prospect. Slingsby received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2014 Australia Day Honours for “service to sport as a gold medallist at the London 2012 Olympic Games”.
