Tom Slingsby OAM was born on September 5, 1984 (age 37 years) in Wahroonga, Australia. Although his father was a sailor and he had been around boats during his earliest years, Slingsby admits he wasn’t a strong junior sailor and instead focused his energy on tennis, which saw him evolve into a budding prospect. In December 2013 Tom Slingsby was a crew member aboard racing supermaxi yacht Perpetual Loyal in the 2013 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, with his other celebrity crew members, Karl Stefanovic, Larry Emdur, Phil Waugh, Jude Bolton and Guillaume Brahimi.

Slingsby received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2014 Australia Day Honours for “service to sport as a gold medallist at the London 2012 Olympic Games”.
