Val Kilmer is an American actor and author. He found fame after appearances in comedy films, starting with Top Secret! (1984) and Real Genius (1985), as well as the military action film Top Gun (1986) and the fantasy film Willow (1988).

Val Edward Kilmer was born on December 31, 1959 (age 63 years) in Los Angeles, California, United States. He is the son of Gladys Swanette Ekstadt (1928–2019) and Eugene Dorris Kilmer (1921–1993), an aerospace equipment distributor and real estate, developer.
His mother Gladys Kilmer was of Swedish descent. His father’s ancestry included English, Scottish-Irish, French, and German. His parents divorced in 1968 when he was 8 years old. Kilmer’s grandfather was a gold miner in New Mexico, near the border with Arizona. In 1977, Kilmer’s younger brother Wesley, who had epilepsy, drowned in a jacuzzi at age 15. Career
Val Kilmer co-authored and starred in the play How It All Began, which was performed at the Public Theater at the New York Shakespeare Festival in 1981 while at Juilliard.
