Zoe Daniel was born in 1973 (age 50 years) in Melbourne, Australia. Her father is the former Essendon footballer Peter Daniel. She moved to Launceston, Tasmania when she was two years old when her father was working there as a football coach.
At the age of six, Daniel was ascribed to a reading age of 15. She originally wanted to become a vet, but Daniel’s science teacher persuaded her to do something that better suited her, and she studied journalism.
Career
Zoe Daniel began her career with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 1993 as a regional radio producer in Adelaide. She worked in the rural department for a number of years before becoming the presenter of The Country Hour in Victoria.
Daniel reported on the summer Olympics in 2004. She was posted in Africa from 2005 to 2007 where she reported on many of the conflicts in the region, including the regime of Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone civil war, the Darfur genocide and South Sudan.

She returned to Australia when she became pregnant, but when her children were one and three years old in 2009, she moved with her family to Phnom Penh where she reported on the Khmer Rouge tribunal.
From 2010 until 2013, Zoe Daniel took up a posting in Bangkok as the ABC’s Southeast Asian correspondent. At the time, Daniel’s posting while a mother of young children was unprecedented. During her time there she reported on the 2010 Thai political protests and interviewed Aung San Suu Kyi.
Zoe Daniel w as posted to be the chief of the ABC’s Washington bureau in 2015. In that time she traveled to 44 of the 50 states and was one of the journalists who foresaw the possibility of a Trump victory. She ended her post there in 2019. Zoe Daniel was endorsed by Voices of Goldstein as an independent candidate to run in the 2022 federal election in the seat of Goldstein. Her candidacy was endorsed by the former member for Indi, Cathy McGowan, former leader of the Liberal party, John Hewson, and minister in the Fraser government, Ian Macphee.
Daniel is a self-described swinging voter, as a consequence of her father’s “negative experience of party politics”. She describes herself as a “social progressive, economic conservative”.
